Description

A picture created for the Visual Arts class' final exhibition.
This person in the middle is Flare, who has been my "main" OC since a long time ago.
At the edge of dying the Phoenix appears, symbolizing her "rebirth", becoming the Flare she currently is.

I have made minor changes to her appearance, but not much, it's hardly noticeable.
For the exhibition the image was printed A2 and glued down to a black wooden canvas.

I think this is a very well-done piece of work--no pun intended. The flames, while not entirely realistic, are very stylized and seem more like brush strokes or feathers, which is likely what you went for. They evoke the feeling of flame and heat without actually representing them, yet it is clear that the phoenix here is made of fire. The phoenix, to me, is the best part of this picture, both style-wise and in terms of apparent effort. I also like the effects that appear to be bubbles or paint splotches (I'm kind of a sucker for those anyway). I noticed a little flame reference around the human and inside the bird, which is neat, but I'm not sure it's really visually necessary--we get that there's fire there.

In terms of the human subject--I like that it looks like a real person. At first, I thought it was a man, but upon closer inspection I see a more feminine form. I like that you carried red through to her clothes and hair, but if you want her to stand out a little more, adding more depth to the color (layers of shading, color that isn't entirely uniform, etc.) would help. Also, what is the light source in this picture? Is the Phoenix supposed to be there? Or is it only in the human's head. If the Phoenix is the light source, then you should really consider redoing the shading on the character all together because she would be bathed in golden light.

That said, I like this concept and the art itself. Keep on improving.
